The Metal

new york street style

They say that less is more but I find the opposite to be true on the right people.  I love how the tie of her bandana scarf look like little ears too.

Her ballerina dress (her favourite) is from Sophomore.  The jacket is vintage Jill Stuart.  The jewellery is vintage.  The sunglasses are vintage DKNY (similar).

Pamela Love

Vintage western cowboy boots

Topshop Arson flame western boots

Took this shot of Pamela Love last month in vintage flame boots.

I've personally tried hunting them down since last year and these just popped up online.

Get them here in red/black or black/black and wear them into the ground.

What's with the rabbit?

rabbit ear iphone covers

I'm sure all of you have seen these on iPhones.   They are popping up everywhere like erm.... rabbits.

I think I first saw them during fashion week,  highlighted on street style sites in tight crop shots of the owners texting or making calls.  Since then, these bugs bunny ears are a recognizable staple all over the place.   My cover is pretty boring and bears a massive chip where it took the brunt for saving my iPhone during another oh-sh**-don't-break fall.

I recently met up with Jenn from Le Fashion who wowed me with her new crystal like studded cover.  It sparkles like charcoal jewels and is one of the chicest versions I've seen (most studded versions look a little gaudy).  This didn't.  However I'd be even more afraid if a blinged out protector fell to the floor from my clumsy fingers.

I sometimes carry teeny bags like this so getting anything with bunny ears or anything else attached wouldn't work.  Note: I've seen fluffy tails sold with the ears.  No comment.

If anything, it reminds me that a cover upgrade is needed.  Sans ears.  Send recs my way please.

Anyone here a fan of these phone accessory trends?

Where did u get those boots

Girl wearing All Saints Damisi boots and Ray Ban Wayfarers

Her shirt is by H&M.  The coat is Zara.  The shades are Ray Ban.  The pants and boots are from All Saints.

I already knew where these boots were from before I asked her.  I've been aware of them for the past 2 years - and counting.

Every now and then someone comes out with the perfect version of an item.  To me in this case -  it's this combat boot.  I've seen the buckled straps worn in different ways (she is wearing the bottom strap threaded through the top buckle with the flap folded down in front.   Cuffed oversized chinos + shirt = relaxed chic.  It really is the teeny details...

You can get her boots and pants here in different colours.

Bam!  Every now and then you see someone that stops you.

Rachel Rabbit White looks like the essence of 1960s rock and roll.   That sergeant pepper beautifully detailed dress.  Her long time owned and adored vintage bag.  I have a soft spot for Queen bags too like this (my nick name for them). Mine is black but a bright one like Rachel's is perfect for right now.

Everthing reminded me of the aesthetic of Anna Sui which reminds me.  I have a recent find Anna Sui dress I need to show you soon....

Where to Get This Look:

An Antik Batik paisley print or leather trim Karen Zambos dress or a short sleeved dress like this that looks vintage.  Add bright tights or tie dyes and layer a DVF or Forever 21 pom pom scarf.

Boot options: Rachel Comey, Ash or Dolce Vita (if you want height) or fringed Minnetonkas (I have the same ones).

Where did u get that scarf

For me, it's not easy finding the perfectly worn in semi sheer scarf.

I see countless draped around the necks of lovelies on the streets in New York year round.  All in different textures, sizes and colours - tassles optional like this super bright one. I live in my black one by Love Quotes but it's.....black.  Safe and boring. The above one stopped me in my tracks long enough to take the shot but not ask where did she get hers. #FAIL

It looks like something faded out and softened after several washes - although these days what really is when anything can be bought to look like it is?

Thx to a couple of readers (thank you!)  they identified it from Free People. Apparently this version above is sold out (crap!) but I settled on the grey and blue version.   I'm already imagining a couple of ways to wear it including draped over shoulders.

Not that you hadn't already guessed it, but yes I caved and got it here.  If anyone spots a Union Jack version, do a girl a favour will you and let me know?

Where did u get that - Ring

I spotted Daniel on 7th street in the East Village and was transfixed by this gold and silver ring.

You know when you see someone dressed so simply with one piece of jewellery that it sets everything else off?  After a minute or so of looking at his ring - I approached him.

WDUGT SPOTLIGHT - Spring Ready

Zuzanna and I were meant to bump into each other:  I saw her 2 hours earlier crossing the road with a friend and I stopped to consider running up to ask for a snap. I changed my mind. Regretting it of course.  Later that day I see her coming towards me at a completely different location.

It was the cobalt blue bag (currently obsessing) and faded denim shirt that caught my eye.  The shot was taken on a freakishly warm afternoon.

Her leather and chain strap bag is by Chloe.

Where You Get The Look:

Topshop denim shirt

ASOS Slouch T-shirt

Cheap Monday Maxi skirt with front split

DVF or Jeffrey Campbell thong sandals

Kristen Elspeth Oval Bangle

Alexander Wang Marion

Rebecca Minkoff MAC in cobalt

Clare Vivier suede tote

WDUGT SPOTLIGHT - A Statement Piece

Taken during NYFW, I was originally getting a shot of this girl's cape, but when she mentioned her gifted necklace I asked her to show me and voila: everyone started snapping pictures of it.

I love bold jewellery.  Not just because of the piece itself which is big (excuse the pun), but because it means we can go with a basic outfit. A long dress. A basic T-shirt.  That's it.  Add one standout piece and suddenly you get the 'oooooo WDUGT?' questions.  It's the fastest way to dress up without trying.  Keep everything bare so the focus is on that piece (eg. this neon necklace post).

I found these online to go over plain T-shirts or dresses:

Charles Albert Arrowhead necklace

ASOS Seedbead Tassel necklace

Kenneth Jay Gold necklace (I have a similar in silver like this one)

Pamela Love Tribal Spike necklace

Dannijo Stella Collar

Forever21 has a bunch. Get two and layer them to resemble one piece.

Don't forget street vendors. I've seen some of the best pieces sold on the streets!!

WDUGT SPOTLIGHT - Gladiators

I stopped a girl on Sunday wearing these black leather sandals.  Very no nonsense masculine. Really simple for summer.

Loved the dark buckles.  The wide straps. The thicker sole.  Looking at them up close they had the finish of designer sandals ie. Rag & Bone.

She got them from All Saints mens section.  I wear womens US 10 and their mens size 9 fitted (I got a pair). They are online here.  I swear my obsession with menswear is relentless.

Her full look will be on the street blog soon.

WDUGT SPOTLIGHT - Winterizing Dresses

I saw Josie from behind crossing the road and loved her coat and backpack. I ran up to her and when she spun around I smiled. "So glad I stopped you" - I thought to myself.

It's always good to see a girl after my own heart and finding ways to start wearing spring looks already. Love the baby blue and light brown coat and boots.  I complimented her on the coat and she beamed: "I know right? and it was only $60!"  She reminds me of myself when I'm excited about a good find.

Don't even get me started on the little flowers she tied to her boot laces. They looked like they were supposed to be worn that way.  You are going to try this correct?  Because I bloody well am.

Josie is wearing: Rodarte for Target dress. Rodarte sunglasses. Vintage coat from Etsy. Cheap Monday knit and a vintage back pack (unseen).
