So this is technically a dress, just not on me. That's what happens when you are the tallest kid in 7th grade and no one asks you out for the next ten years because your height intimidates every single boy, even the male teachers. (wait -- how did that anecdote get in here?) You see, you can't always trust a dress. So instead I tucked the ends under and now I have a shirt. And yes, that last sentence did make me feel like a giant.

I'm pretty sure this is my "if I were an elementary art teacher" outfit.  Why elementary art? Simple: high school girls scare me and I'm terrible at shading.

(Just Cavalli Dress, Jennifer Hawkins for Siren Heels)

It's that time of year again when Luke packs his bags and leaves me for the sunny shores of Hawaii, where he will be shooting a surf tournament for the next four weeks. We just celebrated our five year anniversary together so I think after this many years of Hawaii stealing him for my birthday and Valentine's day I'm a pro at dealing with time apart. We thought for our last shoot together we'd just have some fun. Sometimes shooting outfit posts can be a little stressful if all the elements aren't working (weather, location etc) so with an open mind and no expectations we walked down to the beach and quickly took these photos. Never would I have imagined myself in such a beautiful dress but after seeing this whimsical water colour print by Just Cavalli it was just too hard to resist! Strangely enough it's been overcast here all week but we happened to luck into one of the most intense sunsets I've seen all summer. It emitted a beautiful golden glow over the entire beach and made me feel somewhere between the night sky and constellations, but I think I'll post those photos a little later on as there's already far too many photos for this one post!

Off Duty

{Similar Tee, Similar Pants, Flats}

It's true -- there are days I don't wear heels, I don't shellac my make-up on and I simply don't dress up. As of lately there have been many of these days. Of course you don't know about these rogue outfits because I rarely take photos on my off days. Why? Because I don't want to bore you with my t-shirts that I sometimes sleep in and wear the next day, and a random pair skinny jeans that I've worn for 4 weeks straight so they are stretched out and make me feel skinny. But today I am going to be honest -- today I am a bore.  So here is an off duty outfit to lull you back in to your Monday afternoon nap time. Wait -- was that a yawn? Oh, you don't take a nap at your office? Liar.

love letter

I believed in the purest form of love there was. Something which only existed in movies. Others read what I wrote and felt uplifted. They called it beautiful. But it was just my life. I believed it. All of it. And it made me better. I wrote better. I worked better. I felt strong. All the things that love was supposed to do for you.

And then you told me it wasn't love…

Love is just a package to be sold and purchased. We feel things and we think it's love. But maybe it was just a good salesman.

Thank you for helping me to find my voice. For letting me create this world for us to exist. It wasn't real. But I was happy. Although I no longer believe in love, I believe in myself. And that's all I need to keep going.

Ah, color blocking. Wait -- this is still in right? If not, I'm bringing it back from the good ol' days of last summer. Color blocking is so hot right now, if you didn't know...

So it's true. You can now go to kendieveryday.com and find my blog! It only took me two years and a month of blogging to register and re-direct my domain. Technology! And since I'm so savvy on the internets, I actually have no idea if this jacks up RSS feed or anything. If it does, my bad. If it doesn't, I'm a freaking genius.

With a recent string of editorial appearances in American Vogue (July, August, November 2011) I thought it was appropriate to include Claire Courtin-Clarins here.

Good News!

Let's just get this out there: I'm terrible at making announcements. But I have exciting news, so I'll give it my best shot. Next month Bloom is opening online! What is Bloom you say? Well I opened Bloom, a little boutique in McKinney, Texas, last September right? And every once in a while I'll sport something from there (that's what the 'bloom' tag is, if you were ever lost on that). But unless you lived close by, you weren't able to buy the items I wore. Next month, select items from Bloom will be available online -- a small peak into the retail store. Right now Bloom's site is getting a facelift, you can check our progress out on Bloom's Facebook page or right here, of course. I will not leave you hanging.

Till our undetermined date in February, how about a few shots our first photoshoot to hold you over?

See you guys and this cute little model in February. (Just kidding, I'll see you tomorrow.)

(Zara Skirt/Top, Vintage Necklace/Bracelet/Bag, Jennifer Hawkins for Siren Heels)

I don't know if it has something to do with the start of a new year and my 'try new things' mentality but all I feel like wearing lately is simple black and white combinations. This is something my wardrobe usually tries to avoid but at the same time so desperately needs. Of course it had to be Zara who ignited my love affair with monochrome pieces, with this simple black skirt with a cropped front and fishtail back being one of my absolute favourite Zara purchases to date. A simple yet sultry piece that shows the perfect amount of leg and easily compliments a bold red lip and a messy bed hair bun without being too over the top. Sculptured shoulders and cut out detail also help to keep this minimalistic look bold rather than boring (well, I hope so anyway) and have inspired me to work towards building a more balanced and diverse wardrobe this year.
